FEEDING AND SPEECH THERAPY MAY BE THE MISSING PEICE TO YOUR CHILD’S SUCCESS IN SCHOOL!
Did you know that most children Could benefit from Feeding and/or Speech Therapy?
While most people think that a Speech Language Pathologist focuses ONLY on the “speech sounds” that child makes, their scope of practice is quite vast!
It includes everything from VOICE, to ORAL MOTOR FUNCTION, FEEDING skills and COGNITIVE skills (like thought organization, safety assessment and sequencing, and other executive functioning skills.)
In the extremely social world we live in, it is ESSENTIAL to analyze the whole picture; and daily nutrition is a significantly underappreciated point of information related to your child’s performance. It plays a critical role in both attention span and stamina.
CHILDREN OF ALL SKILL LEVELS, PERCENTILES, AND AGES, COULD BENEFIT FROM LANGUAGE-BASED CHALLENGES, DAILY ORAL CLEANSING HABITS, DAILY NUTRITION ANALYSIS AND SOCIAL COACHING! Read more to see if your child/ren could benefit from services at Ms. Margaret’s Therapy!
Feeding Therapy MAY benefit:
Who: Children who breathe through their mouth, Snore, have become Selective/”Picky” Eaters, Grazers, Movers, Messy or Slow Eaters, or who have a preexisting diagnosis including Autism Spectrum Disorder, Failure to Thrive, Gastroesophageal Reflux Disorder (GERD), Feeding/G-Tubes, Colic Symptoms, History of Tongue/Lip/Cheek Ties, and other mealtime behaviors that cause angst around the table
When: Private Evaluation, Menu Modification, Chewing/Oral-Facial remediation, Body Awareness activities both with and without snack involved
Where: Your local therapy clinic (@msmargaretstherapy), Small group instruction and UNIQUELY designed carry-over exercises (Home Application Plan’s for Patient and YOU (HAPPY Work), or In-School* application via your child’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP) (*must be evaluated and qualify for services prior to intervention)
Why: If your child is unable to consume meals filled with “Fuel Food” and within a timely fashion, they are more than likely experiencing nutritional deficits hindering their daily performance in school. Request an appointment today to discuss your child’s specific situation!
Speech Therapy MAY benefit:
Who: Children who typically score “Average/Below Average” in school, struggle to perform basic directions/instruction, demonstrate mild signs of attention deficit, hyperactivity, or present with a preexisting diagnoses including (but not limited to) Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Cerebral Palsy (CP), Intellectual Disabilities (ID), or Central Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD), along with Selective Mutism, Developmentally Delay, Down Syndrome, Articulation Disorders, Traumatic Brain Injury, or Social/Pragmatic deficits (especially when making friends and maintaining relationships)
When: Private evaluation, Social Engagement/Modification, Receptive Language Remediation, Increased personal space and Body Awareness/Gestural Communication
Where: Your local therapy clinic (@msmargaretstherapy), Small group instruction and Home Application Plan’s for Patient and YOU (“HAPPY” Work) in your home for family carry over, or In-School* application via your child’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP) (*though must be evaluated and qualify for services prior to intervention)
Why: If your child is performing “Well Enough” to keep up with peers, but is still struggling to show “Fascination, Excitement or General Involvement,” there may be an underlying issue related to how they process language.
